Proposal
The BBC are looking for an app-based service that helps to augment live experiences aired across their TV channels. The aim of this app would be to encourage Gen Z users, specifically in the 18-24 year old demographic, to utilise digital media to satisfy the curiosity and interest of this audience
BBC Bard is an app that provides modern English translations for Shakespeare plays, as well as offering content that supports and educates people on the works of William Shakespeare. The idea would be based around a collaboration with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, with special performances being live-streamed on BBC television and then being made available on iPlayer. Users would be able to have real-time translations playing on their phone, as well as access to additional information like cast lists, analysis and trivia - creating a version of the connection between current film-watchers finding additional information on sites like IMDB.
Gen Z are an age group used to consuming media in new and modern ways, disrupting the traditional forms of education and entertainment to learn and have fun on their own terms. To combat Gen Z’s concerns of trust, impartiality and a feeling of being misunderstood, the BBC must show themselves to be interested, aware and open to new ideas to show that they can be trusted to create relevant, catchy content that treats the decision makers of tomorrow with respect.
